Miramichi, NB – After a “contract hand-off”, a deal was reached between members of IAM Local 2418 and their employer, Towne Ford.
Grand Lodge Representative Rick Arsenault began negotiating the new contract before his retirement at the end of October. As his replacement, Matt Barnable came in the union went back into conciliation with a clear mandate from the members.”
“Our members were very sure about what they wanted to see in the agreement and that they understood the importance of seniority, and increases to keep up with the rising cost of living.” said Barnable.
“Deryk Murphy and Chris Jardine were crucial in seeing the negotiations through,” Barnable added. “With the members input we were able to get a fair deal during conciliation that the members were happy with, including significant wage increases. Rick Arsenault made himself available to offer his expertise and guidance through the process after I assumed the role and I’m very thankful for his steady hand.”
The new contract gives members a 3% wage increase in every year of the agreement, as well better bereavement leave and boot allowances. It was voted for unanimously.
The 12 members consist of service technicians, parts personnel and service advisors.
