Toronto, ON – Today, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) recognises the dedicated individuals who keep our airports running smoothly and safely.
The inaugural Airport Workers Day, which will be observed annually on June 26th, will pay tribute to the essential contributions of airport personnel who play a crucial role in our nation’s transportation infrastructure.
Airport Workers Day was organized by the Canadian Airports Council (CAC) and will see more than 35 airports across Canada holding events to recognize the workers at Canadian airports.
The IAM proudly represents 17,000 of those workers at Canadian airports.
From baggage handlers to pre-board screeners, from air traffic controllers to maintenance crews, and from ground service equipment mechanics to cargo handlers, these hardworking individuals ensure the seamless operation of airports across the country. Their efforts not only facilitate travel but also uphold safety standards and contribute significantly to Canada’s economy.
“As we mark Airport Workers Day, we extend our deepest gratitude to the men and women who work tirelessly on the front lines and behind the scenes at Canadian Airports across this country,” said Keith Aiken, IAM Canada Air Transportation Coordinator. “Their commitment and professionalism are vital to maintaining the efficiency and safety of our aviation industry. In celebrating Airport Workers Day, we also want to thank our 17,000 for the critical work they perform at Canadian airports. Without the performance of this critical work, the country would come to a standstill.”
