LECO INC, workers secure a new 4-year agreement

Meeting in assembly on March 12, the 34 members of the LECO Inc. unit, affiliated with Local 712 (L-712) of IAM, accepted their new contract with a 90% approval rate.

The new agreement provides for an 11.5% increase in the wage bill over the duration of the contract.

The new collective agreement also includes:

  • Reduction in the number of years of seniority required to obtain additional vacation days (starting from the 13th year) and addition of a sixth week of vacation after 22 years of service.
  • Reorganization of union releases for the shop president, who will benefit from 3 hours per week or 12 hours per month to perform his duties.
  • Addition of a working hours redistribution clause in case of absence within a production team.
  • Improvement of bereavement leave.
  • Extension of the deadline for filing grievances.

Étienne Trottier-Zalums, Business Representative-Organzier of District 11 who accompanies the unionized workers of LECO Inc., expressed pride in the work accomplished by the negotiating committee. “I want to thank Stéphane Labranche, Hermann Ze, and Jonathan Beaulieu-Lambert for their involvement in the negotiating committee. They were there to help their fellow workers when they found themselves laid off at the time negotiations began in late October 2024. They are true warriors; their contribution was significant from the beginning to the end of the process,” he emphasized.

Étienne Trottier-Zalums also had good words for the members of the LECO Inc. unit and for the executive of L-712. “The members demonstrated exemplary solidarity. They stuck together and showed up for the two votes that took place for the renewal of their collective agreement. I also want to highlight the unwavering support of the L-712 executive committee,” he concluded.

LECO Inc. workers specialize in manufacturing polyethylene films that meet the needs of consumers and industry. The products manufactured are intended for pharmaceutical, food, horticultural and agricultural, commercial, and general sectors.
