Toronto, On – The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have yet again expanded their membership at Pearson International Airport.
Two hundred employees of Toronto Ground Airport Services, a subsidiary of BBH Services, are the newest members of IAMAW Local Lodge 2323. “This is a very rewarding victory over an aggressive and anti-union employer,” said a very happy IAMAW District 140 Organizer Ian Morland. “This campaign has been ongoing since May and it involved terminations and worker intimidation by the employer.” Added Morland, “We took the matter to the Labour Board who awarded us a vote and not only did we win the vote but we got the jobs back for those who were terminated and wanted to return to work and severance for those who did not wish to return to work for this employer.”
The new members include dispatchers, lead hands and wheel chair assistants for physically-challenged patrons who use the airport and its services. The IAMAW also represents employees at BBH.
