Nanaimo, BC – Members of IAM Local Lodge 1857 have ratified a new collective agreement with Berk’s Intertruck Limited Nanaimo Branch.
The three-year agreement provides wage increases of one per cent in the first year plus a $0.50/hour premium for Class 1 Driver Licensed Mechanics, one per cent in the second year and one per cent in the third year. The company will also make a retirement savings contribution of $200.00/month for each full-time employee in the first year, $225.00/month effective July 1, 2014 and $250.00/month effective July 1, 2015.
Other agreement highlights include :
• Afternoon shift premium of $1.00/hour
• Graveyard shift premium of $1.25/hour
• Family Day added to Statutory holidays
• Vision care increased to $300.00 every two years
• New: Safety glasses provision to a maximum of $200.00 every two years
• Major dental coverage increased to 75 per cent
• New: Long Term Disability coverage to a maximum of $1,000.00/month
• Boot allowance increased to $200.00
• Harmonized Apprentice Pay for Trade School with Supplementary Unemployment Benefits program
• Pager allowance for Parts Department is now $90.00/week
The 21 members consist of Commercial Transport and Heavy Duty Mechanics and Parts Persons. Berks is the authorized dealer for Volvo, Autocar and Isuzu heavy trucks as well as a distributor for several styles of dump truck bodies and trailers. The IAM represents workers at three commercial truck dealerships in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
