Nepean, ON – The IAM Canadian Health Care sector has expanded again, this time in the town of Nepean, just outside Ottawa.
Employees at the Thorncliffe Retirement Home are the newest members of IAM Local Lodge 1295. “These workers were looking for union representation,” explained IAM Grand Lodge Representative and Organizer Scott Jackson. “We represent workers at three retirement homes in the Ottawa area and the Thorncliffe workers could see firsthand the benefits provided by belonging to a union.”
“DL 78 Organizers Roy Bhansingh and Aurélie Sarrabezolles guided these workers through the process and ensured that they stuck together,” stated Jackson.
The 45 new members consist of nursing, dietary, house-keeping, reception and maintenance workers. The IAM represents workers at retirement homes in Orleans, Bowmanville, Toronto and North Bay.
