For Immediate Release
Vancouver, BC – The IAM membership continues to grow at Vancouver International Airport with the latest organizing victory at Swissport International.
“This organizing victory concerns aircraft groomers who were sub contracted out by the former Servisair Company,” explained IAM Transportation District 140 General Chairperson Todd Haverstock. “All Servisair work including subcontracted work performed by Avex Limited was absorbed by Swissport when the companies merged. As part of the bargaining for a new contract with the IAM, Swissport agreed to an intermingling agreement which means there would be no subcontracting of any work and the former Avex employees could become new members of IAM Local Lodge 16.” The approximate 100 affected groomers are to be given a $500 retention bonus after three months of employment with Swissport.
IAM members at Swissport perform all type of baggage handling, systems maintenance and aircraft grooming at Vancouver International Airport. The IAM is the largest union at the airport.
