Montréal, QC – “I must admit, this was the fastest organizing campaign I have been involved in,” explained a pleased IAM Transportation District Lodge 140 Organizer Sam Jabbar. “From start to finish, it took four hours to convince these workers to join the IAM and sign cards.”
“What began as merely an information meeting quickly became more involved and the more Sam spoke about the IAM, the more these Sky Café drivers wanted to know about their rights and how the union would represent them,” said IAM Grand Lodge Representative Michel Richer. “It was very clear that health and safety was a big issue for them and they are convinced that union representation with the IAM is the best way to solve it.”
The 15 drivers are the newest members of IAM Local Lodge 2309. They’re employed by Sky Café, delivering prepared meals from the Sky Café kitchens to Air Transat flights operating out of Montréal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.
“The next step is to organize the kitchen staff here in much the same manner as we did in Toronto last year,” explained Jabbar.
The IAM is the largest union in Canada’s Air Transport Sector.
