Nanaimo, BC – When there is respect in the workplace it does not take long to produce a collective agreement that everyone can live with. A case in point is Berk’s Intertruck in Nanaimo. “Management at Berk’s appreciates the skills of our members and this is reflected at the bargaining table,” says a justifiably proud IAMAW District Lodge 250 Business Representative Alastair Haythornthwaite. “We reached our agreement in a single meeting.”
The new three-year agreement provides wage increase of 1 per cent in the first year, 2 per cent in the second year and 3 per cent in the third year. Other agreement highlights include :
• Improvements to employer RRSP contributions in the third year of the agreement
• Improved measures to assist employees on WCB regarding health and welfare costs
The 16 mechanics are members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1857 and provide truck maintenance services.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
