Burnaby, BC – Janet Andrews of IAM Local Lodge 764 has been acclaimed as the new Secretary Treasurer of the New Westminster and District Labour Council, effective February 22, 2017. This marks the first time an IAM member has been appointed to a full-time position with the council.
She replaces Carolyn Rice who has been the Secretary Treasurer of Council for 26 years and a member for since 1973.
“This represents an exciting and really unique opportunity for me,” said Andrews. “She has the right personality for the job,” explained IAM District Lodge 250 Directing Business Representative Walter Gerlach. “Carol has been looking to step down for some time now and the Council was looking for someone who could transition into the job and they were looking at Janet but employment obligations interfered until now.”
Andrews has been a member of the IAM since 1998 employed as a Customer Service Agent with United Airlines at Vancouver International Airport. After United closed its operations in Canada, Janet was employed at the 911 Call Centre. Janet Andrews is Chairperson of the IAM Local Lodge 764 Women’s Committee, the IAM representative on the BC Federation of Labour Women’s Committee and Chairperson of the LL764 Political Action Committee
