An unfair decision has finally been overturned in favour of IAM member Rosita Pandya and also goes to prove a timeless truth about being a union member.
“Rosita, is very pleased with the outcome of her recent arbitration case,” said Kim Valliere, District 78 Directing Business Representative. As a member of IAM Local 1922, Rosita had filed a grievance for a lead hand position in 2019. The union was successful and Rosita was awarded the lead hand position.
Then, in 2020, Rosita was removed from the lead hand position as well as her position at the City of Mississauga, as a result of a medical situation. This resulted in the IAM filing another grievance.
This grievance ultimately ended up in arbitration with the IAM winning the day. Rosita was returned to her lead hand position and her employer was ordered to compensate her for earnings lost and pay damages for violations under the Human Rights Code.
Rosita is extremely pleased to be back at work and thankful for the support from her union. She understands the value of belonging to the IAM: IT PAYS TO BELONG!
The IAM represents some of the inside maintenance workers at the City of Mississauga.
