Celebrating the Remarkable Career of Rai Sagar

IAM Union proudly honours Rai Sagar as she steps into a well-deserved retirement. A founding member and an integral part of our union, Rai has also been a dedicated leader within Local 1231. Her journey has been defined by commitment, strong leadership, and a genuine dedication to serving members.

Born in the Fiji Islands, Rai moved to Canada in the 1970s, leaving behind her family and embracing new opportunities. She spent 28 years working at Noma Industries before returning to school to become a Personal Support Worker (PSW). In 2004, she began working with Preferred Health, which later became Spectrum Health.

Rai’s involvement with Local 1231 began in 2018 when she signed the Charter and officially joined the union. She first served as a steward and later became Chief Steward. Her leadership style was not only effective but also deeply inspiring, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and members alike.

Throughout her career, Rai contributed tirelessly to the union’s growth, attended countless conventions and training sessions, and forged lifelong connections.
