With Davenport MPP Marit Stiles, set to be the next leader of the Ontario NDP, the IAM congratulates Marit and has committed to working with her on issues crucial to Ontario workers, their families and their communities. The NDP will hold a vote to confirm the leader in March 2023.
The NDP Caucus proudly stood with thousands of education workers who stood up for each other, their students, and parents in the province, as they opposed and defeated the Ford government’s undemocratic back-to-work bill 28, and we congratulate them on ratifying a new contract.
They also supported the lines of Ontario workers standing up for their rights and fair contracts. As the Official Opposition, our NDP MPPs rise every day in the House to advocate for working people.
“We are pleased to continue working with Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP on issues important to IAM members in Ontario – and workers everywhere,” said Derek Ferguson, GLR Responsible for Political Action. “We know that Marit will bring strong leadership as we work together to elect a labour-friendly government that cares about people. We invite all Ontario locals to join the NDP and have a voice.”
Marit Stiles, a long-time community activist, served as the MPP for Davenport since 2018. Marit was also the Toronto District School Board Trustee for Davenport from 2014-2018. Since 2018, she has led the fight against Doug Ford’s cuts to education as the Official Opposition Critic for Education.
In December, MPPs Jamie West, Marit Stiles, Jessica Bell, and Peter Tabuns out pounding the pavement in support of McMaster University Teacher’s and Research Assistants striking for a fair deal.
