IAM District 78, alongside the dedicated negotiation committee from SKF Canada, has successfully concluded bargaining for a renewed collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
Representing the interests of all members at the facility, Chief Steward Gary Cranshaw and committee members Blair McBratney and Bob Bennett sat down with SKF management to address both immediate and long-term priorities of the unit.
Through collaborative discussions, the committee secured key improvements that not only strengthen the current agreement but also enhance the appeal of joining the IAM, helping to support the continued growth of union membership at SKF Canada.
Highlights of the new CBA include:
- Safety Footwear Allowance: Increased by $25, now totaling $250.
- Safety Glasses Coverage: Boosted by $100, now up to $300.
- Eye Exam Reimbursement: Raised by $50, now up to $175.
- Prescription Options: Members are now eligible to receive both prescription safety glasses and eyewear.
- Prescription Eyewear Coverage: Increased by $75, now up to $450.
- Health Spending Account: Significantly improved from $150 to $600.
- Pension Contribution: Enhanced to $69 per month per year of service, up from $7.44.
- Retiree Benefits: Life insurance and prescription drug coverage increased from $13,000 to $25,000.
- Basic Dental Coverage: Improved from $600 to $2,000.
- Pension Adjustment: Full unreduced pension eligibility reduced from Rule of 85 to Rule of 80, with a $6.00 bridging payment for the first year of the contract.
- Severance Pay: Set at three weeks’ wages per year of service, capped at 80 weeks, with matching medical, dental, and vision coverage for the severance period.
- Wage Increases:
- July 1, 2025 – 4%
- July 1, 2026 – 3%
- July 1, 2027 – 3%
- Vacation Entitlement:
- Less than 2 years of service – 2 weeks
- 25 years or more – 6 weeks
These improvements reflect the committee’s continued dedication to enhancing the working conditions, health benefits, and long-term financial security of IAM members at SKF Canada.
