IAM Local 1722 at Diamond International Truck ratify memorandum

Edmonton, AB – Members from IAM Local 1722 ratified a Memorandum of Agreement which will bring labour peace until 2025. Although it took time to negotiate, the Bargaining Committee and the Business Representative worked hard to finalise it.

“I would like to thank the Bargaining Committee of Cody Mahar and John Schamber, as well as the members for all their hard work and dedication,” said Kyle Franzen, Business Representative, IAM District 14.

“This wasn’t an easy process; for many years there have been contentious sets of bargaining. The committee was able to get a deal by sticking together. The employer sought rollbacks to paid days off, general holidays, seniority, vacation, Benefits Plan and a short-term contract of two year with wage freezes. The members of Local 1722 stood strong and helped us get it done.”

The collective agreement expired 31 March, 2022, was ratified 13 October, 2022 and included five days of bargaining and 1 day of mediation.

Highlights of the 3-year agreement are:

  • A 6% wage increase over the term, with retroactive pay
  • Adjustments to shifts with premiums
  • Matching RRSP with added employer contributions
  • Added flexibility to and safety allowances

The 25 members consist of clerks, parts and warehouse personnel and heavy-duty technicians. They voted 87.5% in favor of Memorandum. IAM members work on trucks for the city of Edmonton, the military and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), to name a few.
