North Bay, ON – Members of IAM Local Lodge 2412 have ratified a new collective agreement with Seymour Windows Ltd.
“The most significant part of this agreement is that management can no longer do bargaining unit work,” said IAM Grand Lodge Representative Ralph Martin. “Until now, management was free to do bargaining unit work and would not offer bargaining unit members overtime or even call members back from layoff for short periods of time, and would instead perform the work themselves because the collective agreement allowed it. Now management must offer bargaining unit members overtime pay first or bring back members from layoff to do the work. This is a tremendous victory for the members.”
The three-year agreement provides a $750 signing bonus upon ratification and wage increases of $ .50 per hour in the first year and $ .35 an hour in the second and third year respectively. Other agreement highlights include:
- The implementation of a summer work schedule
- The employer paid portion of the benefits package increases by 21 per cent
- Increased boot allowance
- Improved bereavement leave
The 35 members manufacture awnings, casement windows, double hung, double slider, and picture windows, specialty and bay windows, custom doors, doors and sidelights, entry doors, French doors and Garden doors for the home renovation and new home construction industry.
