Edmonton, AB – Canadian IAM members and their children have been presented with the IAM scholarship award every year but rarely do we capture the presentation at a graduation ceremony. For 2017 IAM scholarship recipient Britney Trieu of Edmonton, her award was presented to her as part of her high school graduation ceremony Friday June 30th.
The award is based on academic excellence, test scores, attitude toward study, personal references and the opinions of counselors and teachers. “Britney is a graduate of Old Scona Academic High School, an institution which accepts only the top one per cent of students entering grade nine in the city,” explained IAM Local Lodge 99 Business Representative Kevin Clark, who presented the award. “To graduate from, this institution and then win this award is quite an achievement.”
Britney is the daughter of Don Trieu, a member of IAM Local Lodge 99, employed by Bucyrus Caterpillar/Finning Canada in Edmonton. Britney will attend the University of Alberta in the fall, majoring in marketing and seeking a bilingual business degree.
