The IAM came out in large numbers in support of fundraising efforts by the Peel Region Labour Council. This year, 38 sisters from the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area attended to show unity and solidarity
Each year, IAM Canada’s numbers grow and it’s invigorating to see new faces among attendees. Among attendees were veteran members with 55 years of membership, and those just starting out.
Those attending for the first time noted how inspirational it was to see women from different locals and districts participating; most inspiring was meeting seasoned sisters in the movement, some of whom broke the glass ceiling within our own union!
“It was great to see members quickly jump into action and lend their support. They will take back what they’ve learned here and will share with members of their locals. That how we all learn and we all grow,” said Ivana Saula, Research Director and Women and Human Rights Representative.
The fundraiser raised funds for Hope 24/7, Embrace, Courage Peel and United Way, all providing essential services for women.
The event takes place yearly and is organized by the Peel Region Labour Council, OFL and the CLC.
