Toronto, ON – Members working for AAS Canada Core Services at Toronto Pearson Airport voted 90% in favour of a new five-year collective agreement. The deal provides for wage increases of between 12 % – 27% depending on classification and seniority over the life of the agreement. Members will also join the Union’s Multi-Employer Pension Plan (MEPP).
Gurdeep Panesar, Devinder Lotay and Atta Mohammed, members of the Negotiating Committee, played a vital role in making sure the deal was worked out. This agreement took well over a year to negotiate and our committee ensured our members best interests were heard at the table.
The Union worked to secure a Collective Bargaining Agreement that contained substantial increases to benefit the membership. Bringing in new layoff and recall provisions that will protect our members if there is another downturn in the industry is a bonus and securing a pension plan will assist our members well into the future.
“I have to thank the members of the bargaining committee for patiently working through the bargaining process to secure many improvements to wages and a pension plan. This is a group that has been subject to contract flipping, with the new equal renumeration laws in effect, this new wage scale will ensure other employers would pay the same wages if the contract changes hands during the life of the agreement,” said Dan Janssen, General Chairperson with IAM District 140.
The 200 members consist of wheelchair stockers, surrey service drivers, lead hands and curbside wheelchair attendants who handle wheelchair services and assist passengers with reduced mobility at Toronto Pearson.
