Montréal, QC – One hundred thirty Passenger Service Department employees of Swissport Canada Handling Incorporated at Pierre Eliot Trudeau International Airport have joined the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
“We organized 60 Swissport ramp workers here five years ago,” explained IAM District Lodge 140 Organizer Robert Savoie. “The Passenger Service employees were looking for better working conditions and a better salary. They saw how well their co-workers on the ramp were doing with union representation and decided to join the IAM.”
The 130 new members of IAM Local Lodge 2309 provide airport ticketing sales desk help, arrival and transfer services, baggage services, check-in services, dedicated passenger services, gate and departure services, lost and found services, special passenger and VIP services.
The IAM will begin first contract negotiations for these members with Swisport at the beginning of May.
