Vaughan, ON – This Labour Day will take on new meaning for the 55 service department employees of Sisley Honda in Vaughan because they have joined a union.

Earlier today they voted in favour of joining the IAM.

“We asked them to stick together and make a decision together and they sure did,” said a satisfied Scott Jackson, IAM Grand Lodge Representative. “The group consisting of auto technicians, shuttle drivers, apprentices and service advisors decided it was time to have someone advocate on their behalf for better wages and benefits.

This is the second auto dealership in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to join the IAM, members at Markham Acura are about to negotiate their second IAM collective agreement. “As soon as we are back from the Labour Day weekend we will start the process of electing a bargaining team and enter into negotiations for an agreement with Sisley,” explained Jackson.

The IAM also represents auto dealerships in Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, and Vancouver Island, the lower mainland of British Columbia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland.
