Machinists Expand in Health Care Sector Again!

North Bay, ON – Employees at the Empire Living Centre have become the newest members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
“Our presence in the ‘Gateway City’ has been growing in the last year with the addition of workers at Ontario Patient Transfer and Seymour Doors,” explained IAMAW District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. “With the tireless assistance of Ernie Giroux from IAMAW Local Lodge 2412, these workers saw the benefits of becoming members of the Machinists.”
The 27 new members consist of kitchen, housekeeping, reception, maintenance and nursing staff at the North Bay retirement facility. The IAMAW also represents workers at retirement homes in Toronto, Stratford and Bomanville.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
