Port Alberni, BC – Members of IAM Local Lodge 1857 have ratified a new three-year collective agreement with Pacific Chevrolet (formerly Dennis Jonsson Motor Products).

The new agreement provides wage increases of 1 per cent in each of the first two years and 1.5 per cent in the third year. “With inflation currently running about half a per cent, this agreement represents real income for our members,” explained IAM District Lodge 250 Business Representative Alastair Haythornthwaite. “With local pulp mill workers taking a 10 per cent wage rollback and the local economy being depressed, this is a solid agreement.” Other agreement highlights include :
Trade school pay brought in line with the Supplementary Unemployment Benefits programme, allowing the topping up of wages to 95 per cent without any EI claw back
Family day added to statutory holidays bringing the total to 11

The 13 members consist of Auto Technicians, Body Man, Painters, Lot Persons and Partsmen.  The IAM represents workers at more than 25 automotive dealerships in the lower mainland of British Columbia and on Vancouver Island.
