La secrétaire-trésorière générale Dora Cervantes a été élue le 24 avril 2021. Les résultats ont été annoncés le 7 mai 2021. Le président international Robert Martinez Jr. a été élu par acclamation, ainsi que tous les autres vice-présidents généraux. General Secretary-Treasurer Dora Cervantes was the successful candidate elected April 24, 2021. The results were announced May 7, 2021. Cervantes was the incumbent. International President Robert Martinez Jr. was acclaimed, as well as all other General Vice-Presidents. Along with our new General Vice-President David Chartrand, also elected were Tania Canniff, on the Law Committee and Kim Valliere as CLC the representative. All three Canadian representatives will be sworn in July

Aujourd’hui marque la naissance du fondateur du syndicat des machinistes, Tom Talbot. Né sur une ferme dans le comté de Chesterfield, en Caroline du Sud, le 27 avril 1849, Talbot a occupé le poste de grand maître machiniste (président) de l’AIM depuis sa fondation le 5 mai 1888 jusqu’à sa démission en 1890. Talbot travaillait comme machiniste dans les ateliers de l’Atlantic Coastline Railway, à Florence, en Caroline du Sud dans des conditions déplorables et pour des salaires très faibles quand il a conçu l’idée de recruter les machinistes dans le but d’améliorer leurs conditions par la coopération et l’action collective.

Today marks the birth of the founder of the Machinists Union, Tom Talbot. Born on a farm in Chesterfield County, South Carolina on April 27, 1849, Talbot served as the IAM’s Grand Master Machinist (President) from the IAM’s founding on May 5, 1888 until his resignation in 1890. Talbot was working as a Machinist in the Atlantic Coastline Railway shops, at Florence, South Carolina under deplorable conditions and for very small wages when he conceived the idea of organizing the Machinists for the purpose of improving their conditions through cooperation and collective action.
