Burnaby, B.C. – October 31, 2024 – The IAMAW Automotive Local 1857 members at Kal Tire Branch K669 in Burnaby were locked out today following a challenging round of bargaining, where Kal Tire attempted to push for concessions from the union. The IAM, also known as the “Fighting Machinists,” refused to accept these terms, standing firm against a two-tiered wage schedule that would unfairly impact newer branches by introducing significantly lower pay for the same work.
“Our members perform difficult, essential, and sometimes hazardous work, and they deserve fair compensation across all locations,” said Dale Gentile, IAM District 250 Business Representative. “We’re standing strong for fairness, and we deeply appreciate the support from our community during this time.”
Union members are picketing at Kal Tire, located at 5390 Grimmer Street in Burnaby, B.C., Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Members of the public are invited to show their support on the picket line.
