In a powerful demonstration of solidarity and determination, the 9 IAM Union members of Local 2332, working as shuttle drivers, receptionists, and service advisors at Maitland Ford in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, have successfully secured a new collective agreement.
The achievement came after rejecting two initial “final offers” from the employer, with a strike scheduled to begin within hours. As a work stoppage neared, the employer and union representatives worked together to reach an agreement that better addressed the workers’ needs and expectations.
IAM Union International Representative Scott Jackson expressed immense pride in the members’ collective strength: “I am so proud of these members sticking together and supporting each other to achieve a fair agreement,” said Jackson. “Their chief steward, Lloyd Rowat, knew exactly what his members wanted and remained steadfast in his commitment to that vision until it was achieved.“
The new two-year collective agreement includes a substantial 17.5% wage increase in the first year, a major victory for the workers.
In addition to the wage increase, the agreement also brings improvements in key areas such as vision care, safety footwear, and an enhanced incentive program which are much-needed changes that will directly benefit the workers’ well-being and financial stability.
This victory demonstrates the power of solidarity and is a proof that when workers stand together, they can secure lasting gains for themselves and their families. The IAM members at Maitland Ford have shown that with determination and unity, they can achieve real change.
