The Machinists Union mourns the passing of Jack Layton. Jack was Leader of Canada’s New Democrats and of Canada’s Official Opposition. He was 61 years old. Jack’s vision and his tireless energy transformed the NDP into Canada’s official opposition. New International Convention on Domestic Workers Rights Must Be Respected by Governments, Says Global Union Body
Brussels, 16 June 2011 (ITUC OnLine): The International Trade Union Confederation today welcomed the historical adoption of the Domestic Workers Convention and Recommendation by the International Labour Organisation, but called on the ILO to ensure governments around the world were put on notice about protecting the millions of people in the domestic work sphere. CAW and Air Canada Reach Tentative Agreement!
This afternoon the CAW representing Customer Service Agents at Air Canada, announced it has reached a tentative agreement with the airline, ending a brief work stoppage. Machinists Union members were thanked by CAW President Ken Lewenza for their unwavering support during this work stoppage. IAM members are getting ready to bargain with Air Canada very soon and the CAW has promised its full support.
Edmonton Machinist Receives Wall of Fame Award!
Edmonton, AB – IAMAW Local Lodge 99 member Len Loza was the recipient of the Edmonton and District Labour Council ‘Wall of Fame’ award. Len is a 43-year member of the local during which time he has served as Vice President, Recording Secretary, and Secretary Treasurer. He currently serves as the chief shop steward at the Finning International shop in Edmonton. The award was presented to Len for his years
