IAM Local 2797 members working at NSTU ratify new agreement

IAM members from Local 2797 working for the Nova Scotia Teachers’ Union (NSTU) ratified a new contract last week. There were a number of improvements to their contract which saw the agreement ratified by a large margin.

Some of the gains saw improvements in numerous areas, including

  • Secured language on contracting out restrictions to protect bargaining unit work for our members.
  • 11.5 percent wage increases over three years plus other monetary gains and more days off in lieu
  • Added new language on flexible work options so that our members can book time in their calendars to work outside of the employer’s premises to enhance work life balance.

Kyle Marryatt signs off on the ratified agreement.

“It was a long set of negotiations; we first went to the table in February. Both sides had brought comprehensive proposal packages to the table. The experience, hard work and professionalism from our union committee was paramount to getting this deal done. In the end, we secured first-ever language for this bargaining unit on flexible work options and enhanced bargaining unit protections, as well as substantial monetary gains. The response has been very positive from the membership and we now have a ratified three-year collective agreement,” said Matt Barnable, IAM International Representative.

The members from NSTU joined the IAM in 2019 and are Executive Staff for the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, servicing and negotiating contracts for their membership.
