Members of IAM Local Lodge 412 ratified a new agreement which brought them gains in terms of increases and improvements. Shane Woito, President of the local led the bargaining, but made sure to thanks members of the Bargaining Committee for playing a crucial role in the negotiations.
A slew of improvements included an 11% increase over the life of the contract, as well as increases for Machinists, Team Leaders and Assistant Team Leaders. Tool and Boot allowances were also upgraded. Bereavement Leave was expanded and the Vision plan received an important increase.
“Our Bargaining Committee, Gerry Holmes, Randy Sabourin and Tyler Simpson, did an excellent job throughout the entire negotiation process,” said Shane Woito. “They came well-prepared and had answers to everything the company threw at us. It was a definite challenge negotiating virtually and with a lawyer for the first time, but the committee worked extremely well as a team to ensure the members got the best deal possible,” he said.
Woito also thanked GLR Gary Hynes for the years of mentorship and providing him with knowledge and experience. “Our future is stronger when passing on the knowledge to the next generation in order to secure our future,” Woito concluded.
