The IAM Union has awarded this year’s scholarship to Sharon Vong, a dedicated member of Local 1295, in recognition of her academic ambition, professional commitment, and ongoing involvement in union leadership.
Sharon is currently preparing to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Centennial College, with the goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. Her acceptance into the program marks a significant step forward in her healthcare career, building on her current role as a Registered Practical Nurse at Bellwood Health Services.
Alongside her professional responsibilities in healthcare, Sharon has remained deeply engaged in union work. Within her local, she has served in several key roles, including Secretary-Treasurer and Trustee. She is also an active member of the bylaws committee, contributing to the governance and continued development of her local union.
Upon receiving the scholarship, Sharon shared her appreciation, stating:
“I am honoured and grateful to accept this scholarship award. I would like to sincerely thank the union, the scholarship committee, and everyone involved in supporting members through opportunities such as this.
I would like especially to thank my business representative Ben Osakue, for his continued support, encouragement and leadership. This scholarship will greatly assist me in focusing on my studies and continuing my educational journey from Registered Practical Nuse to Registered Nurse.
I am proud to be art of a union that values education, growth, and member development.”
