Another Healthcare Sector Organizing win for Machinists!

Ottawa, ON – The Machinists Union has its third organizing win in as many months in the healthcare sector in Ottawa.
The IAMAW District 78 organizing team of Scott Jackson and Roy Bhansingh won a unanimous organizing vote at the Belcourt Manor Retirement home in the Ottawa suburb of Orleans.
“These workers were well aware of our recent victories in Ottawa,” said IAMAW District 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. “They want improvements in their wages and benefits in order to reach parity with workers at other retirement facilities in Ottawa.”
The 43 new members of IAMAW Local Lodge 1295 perform office, nursing, dietary and housekeeping duties at the facility. The Machinists organized 60 workers at the Villa Orléans Retirement Home in October and 55 workers at the Kingsway Arms St Joseph Manor Retirement Home in August of this year.
The IAMAW also represents workers at retirement homes in Bowmanville, North Bay, Stratford and Toronto.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare and defense related industries.
