Toronto, ON – IAM Local Lodge 2413 will have more members at Field Aviation when it enters into contract bargaining with the aircraft modifier tomorrow.
“Our current collective agreement had a wage re-opener clause in it which took effect last year and when the wage increases were posted for unionized workers, the non-union inspectors saw the wage difference and asked to join,” explained IAM District Lodge 140 General Chairperson Michael Corrado. “They took one look at the wages and asked to sign cards. The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) recognized our certification and we now we have six additional members.”
“Due to the CIRB’s decision, we will not be in a position to specifically address matters associated to the inspectors when we start bargaining tomorrow,” explained Corrado. “Specific proposals associated to this newest group of members will be compiled, formulated and addressed as we move forward throughout this round of bargaining.”
The 80 members of IAM Local Lodge 2413 provide special mission, interior, and avionics modifications, parts manufacturing, design engineering, design and manufacture of modification kits and avionics servicing for military and commercial aircraft. The IAM is the largest union in the Canadian aerospace industry.
