Ottawa, ON – Once again the IAM delegation will form the largest contingent involved in the Canadian Labour Congress lobby next week on Parliament Hill.
“We have more than 65 delegates from British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, and Nova Scotia coming to meet with parliamentarians February 5-6-7,” explained IAM Political Action Grand Lodge Representative Lou Pagrach. “We’re back to urge MP’s to support Bill C-384, introduced last fall by NDP Finance Critic Scott Duvall. The Bill is designed to amend the Company’s Creditors Arrangement Act so that workers are put at the top of the compensation list when a company files for bankruptcy.” The Bill was introduced November 8, 2017 and received first reading but has been stalled ever since.
Pensions and bankruptcy reform are not the only issues involved in this lobby. Also included in the lobby day agenda are pay equity, Pharmacare, and employment insurance.
