Ontario Election 2018

OFL Town Hall meetings generating interest

Hamilton, ON – There were no empty seats at the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) Pre-Election Town Hall meeting in Hamilton April 5th. “There’s a lot at stake in this upcoming election,” said IAM Grand Lodge Political Action Representative Lou Pagrach. “We have a chance to reverse years of cuts to our public services and bring real change in Ontario.” There are just over 60 days until the election on June 7th.

Participants came ready to roll up their sleeves, and strategize an effective ground campaign that inspires and motivates. The local Hamilton candidates joined the event, including Ontario NDP leader Andrea Horvath.

Some top priority issues in this election were discussed when the crowd was queried “what’s at stake?” Top responses included:

  • Overall health care and long term care
  • Halting privatization of public services
  • Affordable housing
  • Card check to make it easier to unionize a workplace
  • Pension protection

The participants were given a quick lesson in face to face engagement and practiced with some role play discussions and then strategized a plan of action at home and in their community.

The evening concluded with the local NDP candidates and Horvath addressing the crowd.

The next town hall is scheduled for Durham Region on April 12th. For further details, visit ofl.ca
